Why is the company called Ink & Pumice?

In antiquity literature was written with ink on parchment that had been smoothed out by a pumice stone. The quality of the physical materials became a metaphor for the quality of the work written on them. For instance, the Roman poet Catullus refers to his book of poems as “polished by dry pumice” to signify that it is refined and skillfully crafted. Just as the rough papyrus had been carefully polished into a smooth form, the words themselves had been carefully reworked. In a similar vein, I am prepared to help your writing reach its most polished form.
